Gift of the Givers steps in after Vrygrond fire leaves dozens homeless

At least 38 informal structures were destroyed in a fire that broke out in Vrygrond on Monday, affecting 60 residents.
The City of Cape Town's disaster risk management centre spokesperson, Charlotte Powell said Gift of Givers provided immediate humanitarian relief needs.
"We have alerted the city’s informal settlements management branch, the national Human Settlements department and Sassa. The city’s solid waste department too has been activated to remove the fire debris," said Powell.
Its still unclear how the fire started.
Fire and rescue service spokesperson Jermaine Carelse said firefighters were able to extinguish the fire at about 1-pm.
"No injuries or fatalities have been reported, and the cause of the fire is unknown," said Carelse.
