Man arrested for possession of homemade gun in Worcester

A man has been arrested for the possession of a homemade gun in Worcester, Western Cape.

Officers responded to complaints of a shooting in the Roodewal area on Saturday, where the community members pointed out the suspect who was fleeing the scene.

Police gave chase while the suspect threw the firearm into an informal dwelling nearby.

Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg said the suspect will appear in the Worcester Magistrates Court once charged.

"The firearm was recovered, and the suspect was apprehended. The adult male suspect was arrested for the possession of a homemade firearm."

In a separate incident, two suspects were arrested in Nduli, Ceres, for possession of a homemade firearm.

The suspects were also in possession of ammunition when they were searched.
