A massive rainstorm has battered parts of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), leaving a trail of destruction.

Torrential rain triggered widespread flooding, damaging homes, submerging roads, and uprooting trees.

Hard-hit areas include Mariannhill, Shallcross, Chatsworth, Reservoir Hills and Westville.

KZN Human Settlements spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya said they are working with the eThekwini Municipality to assess damage and determine what interventions are needed.

“There is a team that was appointed by Minister of Human Settlements Thembi Simelane, together with the MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma, to do a quick intervention following assessments of any area that is hit by prolonged rainfall or any form of disaster.”
