The KwaZulu-Natal provincial government says there is intervention in place to assist schools with any weather-related disasters during the exam period.

This year alone, at least 138 schools in the province have been damaged as a result of harsh weather conditions.

On Tuesday, the province assured it was ready to host the upcoming exams for the 2025 academic year.

Education MEC Sipho Hlomuka outlined plans for dealing with natural disasters.

"As I always indicated that we’re working with COGTA, as COGTA is a champion of dealing with disaster management. We do have plans to ensure that if there are schools that will be affected by disaster, we do have other options - we will provide mobile classrooms and other options that will be needed at that time."

Meanwhile, Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli said he was happy with the province’s approach and state of readiness for the exams.

"We are quite happy that the MEC for education in KwaZulu-Natal has arranged for us to be part of his visit."
