Western Cape Premier Alan Winde has boasted that the province now has a total of 1,000 gender-based violence (GBV) ambassadors.
On Wednesday, Winde met public safety stakeholders ahead of the 16 Days of No Violence Against Women and Children campaign to strategise on removing what he calls a cancer in society.
He clarified the ambassadors work as volunteers in victim empowerment rooms, ensuring that that those in need of care are looked after.
The annual campaign beings on the 25th of November with a global call against gender-based violence.
"We've got to stop gender-based violence. These ambassadors are trained, and I have a huge amount of gratitude for the work that they are doing in helping us deal with this cancer or this scourge in the society called gender-based violence," said Winde.
