Modack claims Kilian was part of conspiracy against him involving Lifman, Naude

Alleged underworld gang boss Nafiz Modack claims one of the co-accused, Zane Kilian, was part of a conspiracy against him involving his alleged underworld rivals, the now-deceased Mark Lifman and Andre Naude.

Kilian previously testified that Modack instructed him to track the whereabouts of prominent criminal defence attorney William Booth before an attempt on the lawyer's life five years ago.

Modack on Thursday accused Kilian of lying under oath, saying he never instructed Kilian to ping Booth.

State prosecutor Greg Wolmarans asked Modack why Kilian would say he was acting under Modack's instruction when he pinged Booth.

Evidence shows Kilian pinged Booth several times before the attorney narrowly escaped a shooting at his Higgovale home in April 2020.

When asked why Kilian would lie, Modack told the court he had evidence Kilian was doing the same work for Lifman and Naude.

"Kilian was working for them, my lord. Doing tracking, pinging, everything in Johannesburg... so if they had access to Kilian's platform, they could have pinged easily on Kilian's platform my lord."

Modack will be back in the dock when the matter proceeds on Monday.
