CAPE TOWN - A Mitchells Plain gangster has been handed a life sentence for the murder of a rival gang member.
Yusuf Parker, 29, was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Lorenzo Ely on Wednesday.
Western Cape police spokesperson Frederick van Wyk said Ely was shot dead at a tuckshop in Lentegeur in 2019.

"... A Toyota stopped and two suspects jumped out and randomly fired shots at the deceased and other victims, Michael Smith and Bradley Solomons. They tried to run away from the suspects but they were followed until Lorenzo fell down to the ground after sustaining a gunshot wound," Van Wyk said.
He said the other victims managed to get away, and the suspects fled the scene.
"Lentegeur police registered a case of murder, attempted murder, possession of an unlicenced firearm, and ammunition. A thorough investigation by the investigating officer Detective Sergeant Bradley Schuurman, who identified two possible suspects, led to the arrests of 29-year-old Yusuf Parker and 34-year-old Dane Landers."
Van Wyk said detective Schuurman was lauded for bringing Parker to book.
Landers was killed in a gang violence incident while on bail.
