Rising water levels at rivers are disrupting access to several camps in the northern Kruger National Park in Limpopo.

This comes as parts of the province continue to experience flooding following days of heavy downpours.

SANParks said river levels in the Shingwedzi and Luvuvhu systems have risen sharply, with further fluctuations expected as more rain is forecast this week.

The park said the area remains particularly vulnerable after heavy rains earlier in 2026 that left river catchments saturated.

While water levels at the Shingwedzi River continue to rise, management said it’s not yet reached a point where evacuations of staff or visitors are necessary.

However, park officials said they are closely monitoring the Shisha Stream near Babalala and Sirheni, which has overflowed onto a tar road.

Several facilities in the northern parts of the park have been affected, including Punda Maria and Pafuri gates, as well as several bush camps.

SANParks said most gravel roads in the northern and central sections of the park are temporarily closed, and visitors are urged to remain alert and follow road signage.

The organisation said it is continuing to monitor conditions, as the safety of visitors, staff and infrastructure remains a priority.
