National Commissioner Fannie Masemola has called on North West businessman Brown Mogotsi to provide proof following allegations that Masemola received multiple payments from alleged crime kingpin Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala.

Masemola was responding to allegations levelled against him before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee investigating police corruption.

He has vowed to take the matter up with the relevant authorities in an effort to force Mogotsi to either retract the claims or provide evidence.

Mogotsi, who has already provided evidence before both the committee and the Madlanga Commission, accused Masemola of receiving payments from Matlala.

Additionally, Masemola and KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi have been accused of receiving designer bags valued at more than R100,000 each.

The allegations were put to Masemola again today by evidence leader Norman Arendse, who stated:

"Mr Mogotsi had alleged that you received money from Matlala arising from the tender that was awarded to him."

Masemola flatly denied the claims, suggesting the funds may have been misappropriated if they existed at all.

"I’m going to ask Mogotsi to give me that money," Masemola said. "Maybe Mr Matlala gave him the money to give to me, and he didn’t give the money. But indeed, I didn’t receive any money from Mr Matlala, but I saw Mogotsi’s allegation and I will deal with it at some other forums."

In addition to the financial allegations, Masemola denied claims of a political plot with former Minister Bheki Cele to remove Minister Senzo Mchunu.
