National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola has stood by his evidence that Minister Senzo Mchunu failed to inform him about his directive to disband the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).

He said this was despite Mchunu having ample opportunity to inform him throughout December 2024 before he issued the directive on New Year’s Eve.

Masemola is back before the Parliament ad hoc committee investigating police corruption to respond to evidence after his initial appearance in October.

He said Mchunu could have informed him during funerals they attended together and during a virtual meeting on Christmas Eve to discuss the Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala and Medicare24 police contract.

“This is where the minister raised concerns that there were some articles in the newspapers about this contract. So, we had a meeting on the 24th of December and still in that meeting or after, there was never at any given point where the minister spoke to me about the imminent disbandment of the PKTT.”
