National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola returns to Parliament on Tuesday to give his closing testimony and respond to evidence presented so far before the ad hoc committee.
Masemola testified in October, providing evidence on how he was opposed to Minister Senzo Mchunu's directive to disband the Political Killings Task Team (PKTT).
He will also face questions about evidence from witnesses, including suspended Deputy National Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya, who told members of Parliament (MPs) that he was merely following Masemola's orders when he implemented Mchunu's directive.
Masemola is the ad hoc committee's penultimate witness before the hearings conclude on Wednesday with KwaZulu-Natal top cop Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi's evidence.
He will respond to the evidence that Sibiya presented after the latter said he was complicit in the PKTT's disbandment and implemented Mchunu's directive.
Retired Deputy National Commissioner Francinah Vuma also testified last week that Masemola and former Minister Bheki Cele allegedly plotted to force her out of the police service.
On Monday, the committee's chairperson, Soviet Lekganyane, confirmed Masemola's return.
Masemola previously testified that "cartels" have attempted to infiltrate and seize control of the South African Police Service (SAPS) and the justice cluster, but was adamant that the police were not in a crisis.
