JOHANNESBURG - ActionSA has opened criminal charges against Justice Minister Thembi Simelane, over her controversial VBS Mutual Bank loan.
Simelane has been under fire following revelations she took a R575,000 loan from the now-defunct Venda mutual bank.
During her time as mayor of Polokwane, Simelane disregarded a notice from National Treasury and invested hundreds of millions of the municipality’s monies to the VBS Mutual Bank.
ActionSA's parliamentary caucus leader, Athol Trollip, said there was no appetite from The Presidency to get to the bottom of this allegedly corrupt loan.
“Following revelations that the loan agreement, which she refused to provide to Parliament’s justice portfolio committee during her appearance, may indeed be a forgery, as the documents appear to have been created after the agreement was concluded in an attempt to legitimise an allegedly unlawful transaction.”
