JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congres (ANC) in Tshwane says its been asked to make one more presentation on its plans should its pursuit of power in the capital city be realised.

Regional secretary George Matjila told Eyewitness News that the ANC said they must present a plan for the metro to the secretary-general this week.

The ANC is currently in talks with several parties, including ActionSA, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and even the Democratic Alliance (DA) to broker a new power-sharing deal.

However, following past presentations to the ANC’s national working committee, there seems to be a stalemate on the way forward.

NWC insiders have told Eyewitness News the metro was in a dire state, making it difficult to pick a path that would best serve the ANC, this with municipal elections less than two years away.

When it comes to the reconfiguration of the City of Tshwane, it seems the devil has to be in the detail, this as leaders in the ANC’s NWC push for a greater plan before giving the region a decision on whether it can continue with its pursuit of power.

The ANCc has several issues to deliberate on, including whether to follow in the example of Johannesburg by partnering with ActionSA and the EFF or go the Government of National Unity route and work with the DA.

Eyewitness News understands that some in the province are worried about upsetting existing partnerships in metros like Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni.

There is also a question of the financial health of the capital, which has left some in the ANC asking if it’ll be too much of a risk to take on the city 18 months before local government polls.

The ANC has to make a decision before a motion of no confidence in Cilliers Brink is heard next week.
