SIU welcomes SCA dismissal of Motsoeneng application to appeal 'success fee' decision
Hlaudi Motsoeneng was paid a hefty bonus by the SABC for brokering a deal with pay TV, MultiChoice, for broadcast rights in 2016. The award was declared unlawful in 2021 and he was ordered to pay the money back, with interest.

JOHANNESBURG - The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has welcomed the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA)'s decision to dismiss former SABC CEO Hlaudi Motsoeneng’s bid to avoid paying close to R12 million paid to him as a success fee for a MultiChoice deal.
Motsoeneng was paid a hefty bonus by the public broadcaster for brokering a deal with pay TV, MultiChoice, for broadcast rights in 2016.
The award was declared unlawful in 2021 and he was ordered to pay the money back, with interest.
Motsoeneng suffered another legal setback on Monday when the SCA denied his bid to overturn the decision.
SIU spokesperson Kaizer Kganyago: "The original order stands and paves the way for the SIU to continue with the processes to recover the R11.5 million 'success fee' plus interest, as well as legal fees for clinching the MultiChoice deal, which the High Court had previously ordered Mr Motsoeneng to repay to the SABC."
