CAPE TOWN - Western Cape police have confirmed that five people were shot and killed in Khayelitsha on Wednesday morning.
 
The incident allegedly took place on Ncumo Road in Harare section of Khayelitsha.

Details are sketchy but police say an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is under investigation.

The victims were all declared deceased on the scene.

Western Cape Police are appealing to anyone with information on a shooting incident in Khayelitsha to come forward. 

"We have reason to believe that the death of the five people can be linked to an incident during the early hours of the morning where another male was shot and killed in the same vicinity," said police spokesperson André Traut.

Khayelitsha has seen a number of mass shootings over the past few years.
