JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng residents are advised to use alternative contact numbers to reach the Carletonville Hospital as its main line is not working.
The hospital is one of 11 that have had their phone lines disconnected by Telkom due to outstanding debt.
The Gauteng Department of Health says while the other affected facilities can now be reached, the process has been delayed at the hospital due to cable theft.

It added that Telkom is expected to install new cables at the Carletonville District Hospital in the coming week to ensure the phone lines are operational.
The provincial department has urged residents to continue using the alternative number until the repairs are complete.
"The list of alternative contact numbers can be accessed on the provincial government’s website www.gauteng.gov.za,” said Gauteng Health spokesperson Motalatale Modiba, adding that they are working on a long-term solution to prevent the inconvenience.
