President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to deliver the keynote address at the inaugural National Transport Conference taking place at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand.

The three-day conference, set to commence on Monday, will bring together decision-makers, investors and pioneers to discuss ways of building a viable transport system that can drive economic growth and create jobs.

Transport spokesperson Collen Msibi said that key issues on the agenda include difficulties in the country’s port and freight sector, the modernisation of the passenger rail system, improving road safety and addressing infrastructure backlogs.

"We are indeed hoping that the outcome of this particular conference is really going to help us in a number of ways. Part of it is the policy alignment in terms of our sector commitments, the new public-private partnerships as well as the improvement of intergovernmental coordination and the acceleration of priority transport projects.”
