A number of speakers at the funeral service, who grew up with him during the liberation struggle, have recalled how Lekota travelled across the country educating black people about their oppression.
Former Finance Minister Trevor Manuel, who was a close friend of Lekota, said the late Congress of the People (COPE) leader was called to serve the people of South Africa.
“Comrade Terror was premier for a short two years. He recalled because he went on to the radio and called out their bad behaviour. He was loved because he was as honest as he was in all his interactions.”
Former North West Premier Popo Molefe said Lekota sacrificed time with his family to contribute to the liberation struggle.
“Terror was brave and he would not relent to what he was doing. From time to time, we would say to him that’s it's time to stop. We’d tell him to go home and see his family and children at him.”
