The head of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Andy Mothibi, said his office will intensify its crackdown on organised crime.

This, he noted, will take the form of targeting kingpins and criminal syndicates, including those allegedly linked to the Tembisa hospital saga and matters involving businessman Hangwani Maumela.

Mothibi was briefing the media on his strategy for the next two years on Thursday.

He said his crime-fighting approach centres on using racketeering provisions under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act to dismantle entire criminal networks.
 
On matters referred from the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, he said the NPA will act swiftly, adding that he has already assigned two prosecutors and four Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) investigators to form part of the task team investigating such matters.
