Traffic is building up around the Johannesburg Expo Centre in Nasrec as the iconic Rand Easter Show enters its third day.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) said volumes have spiked sharply on Saturday morning, with large numbers of families heading to the event for weekend entertainment and South African National Defence Force (SANDF) exhibitions.

Motorists can expect delays on along the Nasrec Road, Rand Show Road, the Soweto and Golden Highways, as well as the N17 off-ramps.

Officers are urging drivers to be patient, follow instructions, and use designated parking areas.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla said authorities will remain deployed throughout the day to manage traffic and ensure safety.

“Commuters not attending the rand show are strongly encouraged to avoid the Nasrec precinct and use alternative routes such as the M1, Chris Hani Road, Main Reef Road to bypass the congestion. We urge pedestrians to use designated crossing points to avoid walking on the freeway.”
