Eskom reports major improvements across generation fleet

Eskom said that South Africa’s power system remains steady and reliable, with major improvements across its generation fleet.
The utility reports energy availability factor averaged 65.35% for the 2025/26 financial year, up nearly 5% from the last year.
It also highlights 322 consecutive days without supply interruptions, and no load shedding occurring between September 2025 and March 2026.
Eskom Spokesperson Daphne Mokwena said week-to-week performance remains strong, with unplanned outages averaging 9,879 megawatts, down nearly 4,200 megawatts from 2025 - almost the capacity of Kusile Power Station
“Over the same period, the Unplanned Capacity Loss Factor, reflecting unplanned outages, was at 20.75%, representing a reduction of 8.77% compared to the 29.52% recorded during the same period last year.”
