Mamelodi Sundowns are set to host RB Leipzig for a major international friendly in Pretoria later this year.
The German club announced on Monday that the match will take place on Friday, 29 May 2026, at the Lucas Moripe Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 20:00.
The fixture forms part of the Bundesliga side’s RE KAOFELA (All Together) tour, which marks the club’s first-ever visit to South Africa.
The team will be based in Johannesburg from 26 May to 30 May 2026, representing the club’s third major international tour following previous trips to the USA in 2024 and Brazil in 2025.
"After successful tours in the United States and Brazil, we are now very much looking forward to once again taking on responsibility for the league, travelling to South Africa for the first time, and meeting Mamelodi Sundowns, a club that has shaped African football for years and enjoys significant international recognition," said Johann Plenge, Managing Director (CBO) of RB Leipzig. "We carry the colours of our club and our city out into the world and want to be the best possible ambassadors for Leipzig."
The encounter highlights the growing international strategy of both clubs. For the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup participants, Mamelodi Sundowns, the match serves as a high-profile test against European opposition.
Plenge added that the match represents a meaningful connection between the two nations: "This encounter brings together two football cultures known for professionalism, talent development, and innovation and sets a strong signal for sporting exchange between Germany and South Africa."
The visit is a significant milestone for RB Leipzig as it continues to expand its global footprint, combining sporting highlights with targeted initiatives to reach and strengthen local fan communities.
