Members of Parliament’s ad hoc committee probing police corruption threatened forensic investigator Paul O'Sullivan with legal action for walking out of the inquiry while still being questioned.

O'Sullivan abruptly left proceedings earlier to catch a flight shortly before his evidence was supposed to conclude.

He was giving evidence for a second time, following his testimony earlier this month.

In a dramatic conclusion to O'Sullivan's evidence on Thursday, the forensic investigator walked out of the committee before concluding answering questions from the evidence leaders.

O’Sullivan had indicated that he had to leave at 1pm to fly back to Johannesburg, but the questions went on for a bit longer.

A frustrated O'Sullivan then stormed out of the meeting, angering MPs.

"I have reached a point now, chairperson, that where I have to go," said O’Sullivan.

Committee member Julius Malema said he had no right to leave without being released.

"No, chairperson, he’s not going to leave. She’s going to ask a question, if he leaves here, he’s walking out," said Malema.

MK Party MP David Skosana said he must be arrested.

"You’re not going to be released here. You must be arrested and we open a case now," said Skosana.

Committee chairperson, Soviet Lekganyane, has now instructed the committee’s legal team to advise on how to deal with the matter.
