While many may be fully into year-end festivities, it is important to be responsible.
City of Johannesburg EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi notes that people often get carried away with celebrations, leading to a spike in accidents and concerns.

The most common emergencies they respond to during this time include fire incidents, often caused by unattended cooking devices and fireworks.
“As emergency services, we attend to incidents that could have been prevented.”
He emphasises the need for caution, especially when it comes to young children, who may not understand the risks associated with these activities.
Children require supervision and safety measures, such as covering swimming pools and being mindful of weather conditions.
Mulaudzi says that while EMS has adequate resources to respond to emergencies, a safe holiday season will require a proactive community.
“There are just two weeks left of the festive season, so we need to make sure that we celebrate responsibly.”
