Crime activist Mary De Haas says KwaZulu Natal provincial Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and Crime Intelligence boss Dumisani Khumalo are not credible policemen.
De Haas has also told parliament that Mkhwanazi was wrongly promoted to acting commissioner under former police minister Bheki Cele.
De Haas also questioned Khumalo’s qualifications to lead crime intelligence and accused National police commissioner Fannie Masemola of lying under oath.
De Haas was giving evidence before the parliamentary ad hoc committee investigating allegations of police on Tuesday.
Mary De Haas during her testimony was very critical of the PKTT and also defended her calls for its disbandment by minister Senzo Mchunu.
She accused the task team of abusing its powers and wasting police resources that could be used elsewhere.
De Haas also told the committee that Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi and Dumisani Khumalo are not credible when asked by committee member David Skosana.
"I don’t believe general Mkhwanazi is credible. Is general Khumalo credible? Nope, definitely not," said De Haas.
But the DA’s Ian Cameron warned De Haas against making defamatory statements against people in her evidence and must be able to back her claims.
"I think honorable David Skosana asked if certain people are credible. If you make a statement like that you need to be able to back it up," said De Haas.
De Haas concluded her evidence and today will see deputy national commissioner Tebello Mosikili taking the stand.
