The City of Joburg has fixed a massive pothole in Douglasdale that has been ignored for three years.

This, after a video surfaced of Democratic Alliance (DA) Joburg mayoral candidate Helen Zille swimming in it.

Zille, in snorkelling gear, is seen deep inside the water-filled hole that covered half the road.

Mayor Dada Morero said the hole was caused by a burst steel pipe that remained unfixed for years.

In the video, Zille claimed that there was a modus operandi behind why the pothole was not fixed.

"Officials who have attempted to fix the pothole come at night, so they can claim overtime, and then it is vandalised and needs more money for repairs."

The video got a swift response from Morero, who visited the site and initiated repair work.

Morero urges residents to report burst pipes and other service delivery issues on the Joburg Connect app.

The Johannesburg Road Agency said on Wednesday that it will resurface the road with tar.
