Alleged Crime Intelligence contact agent, Brown Mogotsi, claims he spoke to former police minister, Nathi Mthethwa, a month before his death.
Mogotsi has been testifying before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria.
He told the commission earlier on Tuesday that he was an agent of Crime Intelligence, whose role was to supply information to the unit.
Mogotsi went on to allege that KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, is an operative for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).
Mogotsi claims that a source informed him that Mkhwanazi was and is working for the CIA, based in the US.
He alleges that he was then tasked by his Crime Intelligence handler to find out more info.
In August, Mogotsi claims he contacted Mthethwa to find out why he removed Mkhwanazi as acting national police commissioner in 2012.
This was a month before Mthethwa died in Paris.
"I spoke to Mthethwa regarding my concerns that General Mkhwanazi was a CIA operative, according to information I received from my source. Mthethwa said he shared my suspicion. In order to confirm this, he said I needed to travel to Kenya to meet with a person who was aware of CIA operations in South Africa."
Mogotsi claims he met with a person, only identified as "George", in Nairobi, who confirmed the possibility of Mkhwanazi being a CIA operative.
Mogotsi claims he has proof of his travel to Kenya in terms of flight bookings and payments, but does not have proof of his meeting with "George".
