Mkhwanazi is expected to elaborate on the explosive allegations he made public in July, claiming the criminal justice system is captured by criminal syndicates.
Mkhwanazi will take to the witness box as he readies to testify at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
Cameras and lights are focused in on the seat where Mkhwanazi will be expected to answer questions put to him by a panel of evidence leaders of the commission.
Flanked by his evidence leaders, many of whom are senior council, the commission chair, retired ConCourt Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga, will oversee proceedings from the centre of the stage.
While security remains tight at the venue, very few members of the public have arrived, with only 300 seats available to accommodate them.
