BOKSBURG - The African National Congress (ANC)’s special national executive committee (NEC) meeting continues on Monday morning at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg.

On the agenda are discussions on the state of the economy, the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, and candidate selection for next year’s local government elections.

The party is concerned about the struggling economy and the fact that some of its senior members have been implicated in the commission investigating alleged political interference in the criminal justice system.

ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to deliver the closing remarks at the special NEC meeting on Monday afternoon.

Ramaphosa is anticipated to provide insight into the discussions that have taken place behind closed doors over the past three days.

It’s understood that some in the ANC have been unhappy with the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, arguing that some of its leaders were not properly notified before being implicated in the proceedings.

Ramaphosa is expected to clarify the party’s stance on the commission and its findings so far.

The ANC is also beginning to intensify preparations for the upcoming local government elections, as it begins the process to select its mayoral candidates across various municipalities.
