The Presidency is sticking to its decision to only make the final report of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry public.

Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya reiterated this stance during a media briefing on Monday morning.

The inquiry, which was established to investigate corruption within the criminal justice system, is expected to submit an interim report to President Cyril Ramaphosa on Wednesday.

The interim report will contain a detailed account of witness testimonies and evidence presented before the commission over the past three months.

Magwenya said that making the interim report public would be reckless, as the commission is still far from completing its work.

“The reasoning is quite simple: some of the witnesses that have come before the commission are going to be called back again to continue with their evidence. Some of them had evidence located in specific areas but not as broad as it was meant to be.”
