JOHANNESBURG - Low-cost airline FlySafair is prioritising refunds for passengers who need to make alternative travel arrangements.

This, after the airline was forced to cancel some flights due to a pilots’ strike.

Passengers were left stranded at some of the country's major airports on Monday morning when pilots went ahead with their planned work stoppage.

The pilots are unhappy with the current roster system and also want the company to agree to salary adjustments.

Unions are demanding a 10% increase, rest time and leave benefits, which the company has not agreed to.

FlySafair spokesperson Kirby Gordan has encouraged travellers to check the status of their flights before heading to the airport.

“All details for all those flights are available on the updates page on our website, so if your flight is not listed on that travel updates page, your flight has not been impacted by any of the cancellations. Our teams are on standby to assist customers if there are any changes or updates.”
