Mchunu's chief of staff fears he may be killed before appearing at Madlanga Commission, Parly

The chief of staff to police minister on leave, Senzo Mchunu, says he fears he might be killed before presenting evidence at the Madlanga Commission and Parliament. 

Cedrick Nkabinde held a media briefing at his lawyer’s offices in Sandton on Thursday, where he revealed armed and masked police officers raided his home on Wednesday night.

Nkabinde said he wasn’t at home during the raid; however, his brother, who was there, was assaulted by the police officers. 

Nkabinde said the police officers were looking to confiscate his electronic devices, which has evidence.

"I know the experience as a police officer myself, where in some instances, they can plant a firearm and shoot you, pretending as if you shot them. So, fearing for my life, it comes in that line. Why would a police officer wear a balaclava? Why would you hide yourself if you're coming to do legitimate police work?"

He said he had reached out to the Madlanga Commission and Parliament over when he can present his evidence and respond to some of the allegations against him, made by the KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

"Should the police want to get hold of me, in the process of their investigations or a search and seizure, it will have to be done through my lawyers because I don’t trust them. I don’t feel safe and with everything that has been said and with all desperation to link myself and the minister in any wrongdoing, I don’t trust them to come without my lawyer."
