JOHANNESBURG - Forensic teams are combing through the scene of a botched hijacking outside the home of acting Gauteng police commissioner Fred Kekana.
A search was underway in and around Westonaria for a blue BMW, which the suspects were reportedly travelling in.
It’s understood that the armed suspects attempted to hijack a constable in a state vehicle who was outside Kekana's house to fetch him on Monday.
A white state BWM with a shattered window on the driver's side was still parked outside Kekana’s residence on Monday morning.
Forensic teams were dusting for fingerprints and taking photographs of evidence being collected.
According to the Westonaria Police Station commander, Kgomotso Netshitengane, the suspects fled the scene after the constable acted swiftly and opened fire.
“We are now here at the scene with the LCRC - Local Criminal Record Centre. They are trying to get more exhibits from the vehicle.”
Both Kekana and the constable did not suffer any injuries during the attack.
