Gauteng police open murder case after health dept employee killed outside hospital

JOHANNESBURG - Gauteng police are investigating a murder case following the fatal shooting of a provincial health department employee. 

The staff member from the Thelle Mogoerane Regional Hospital was murdered just a few meters away from the hospital's entrance on Friday. 

Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko condemned the killing, describing it as a senseless act of violence.

Police said that they were investigating the cause of the killing. 

Provincial health department spokesperson, Motalatale Modiba: "At around 5 AM in the morning, obviously this incident has shocked a lot of the colleagues and has left everyone wondering as to what really happened. The police are further investigating the matter and in terms of who's behind the attack and what is the motive around this killing."
