CAPE TOWN - The Pedal Power Association (PPA) is calling for extra safety warnings in the Woodstock area.
The call comes after an increase in attacks on cyclists who were on the road alone in the early morning.
PPA CEO, Neil Robinson, said there had been 17 attacks on cyclists recently.
He appealed to cyclists to rather cycle in groups.
"Please try and avoid the area or if you have to cycle in the area, please do so with at least ten to 15 cyclists in a bunch. And it is still dangerous, so please, if you can, at all costs avoid the area for the meantime."
Robinson added that some of the incidents turned violent as criminals used weapons to threaten cyclists.
"We're looking at extending patrols in the area and were working with SAPS and the government and various officials to try and sort it out and we are going to be putting up signage in the area to look at various mitigating circumstances and issues to try and prevent these attacks from happening."
