Tshwane municipality following up on revelations at the Madlanga Commission

Consequence management has already begun at the City of Tshwane municipality following revelations at the Madlanga Commission that senior officials and politicians were involved in tender rigging.

ActionSA Tshwane Councillor Kholofelo Morodi was the first domino to fall after being placed on special leave from her role as MMC for Corporate and Shared Services.

This weekend, the Deputy Commissioner at the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD), Umashi Dhlamini, was also suspended after being implicated in Sergeant Fannie Nkosi's testimony.

Among those implicated in the testimony of Nkosi, nobody is more compromised than Tshwane’s Chief Financial Officer (CFO) - Gareth Mnisi.

Evidence before the commission shows Mnisi and Nkosi allegedly colluded to ensure tenders at the municipality were awarded to their preferred bidders.

However, no action has been taken against Mnisi yet. As a Section 56 manager, Mnisi is accountable to the city manager and council.

Eyewitness News understands there’s pressure on the speaker to call a special council meeting where a vote will be taken on whether to suspend the CFP pending an independent investigation.

In the meantime, Nkosi returns to the witness stand for his seventh day of testimony at the commission.
