DURBAN - Two on-duty KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) police officers have been shot and killed in the Cliffdale area, west of Durban.

On Saturday night, three officers responded to a crime where a woman was shot and killed.

Police said the suspect, who allegedly killed the woman was the same person who shot at the police, killing two of them instantly.

“Last night at 19:30, three police officers responded to a murder of a woman at Cliffdale area in Hammarsdale,” said police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker.

“Whilst they were attending to the crime scene, it is alleged that the perpetrator returned and opened fire on the police officers, fatally wounding two of them.”

Naicker said the suspect is alleged to have killed a fourth person when fleeing the scene.

The murder of the two officers brings the total number of police officers killed in the line of duty to 11 in KwaZulu-Natal in 2024 alone.
