JOHANNESBURG - The African National Congress (ANC) has criticised political parties in the Government of National Unity (GNU) that leaked their cabinet demands to the media.

In a leaked letter to the ANC, which Eyewitness News has seen, the Democratic Alliance (DA) has demanded 12 ministerial portfolios among other key government positions.

It is understood that negotiations have hit a deadlock as parties struggle to agree on the distribution of power.

ANC Spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu said that only President Cyril Ramaphosa has the final say on the composition of his cabinet.

"Negotiating through leaking demands to the media is an act of bad faith and this practice will not help the cause of any of the parties in the negotiating table. The people need a government to be established sooner rather than later."
