Atteridgeville residents in the west of Pretoria are reeling with shock following gunfire and explosions in the area.
Emergency teams rushed to the scene near a filling station in the early hours of Monday morning.
While the motive for the shooting is unknown, residents have been left shaken.
“We were woken by loud bangs and rapid gunfire. It was terrifying, and no one knew what was happening. People around the area started screaming and running outside to see what was going on.
Some families stayed indoors, obviously fearing for their safety. Even after it quieted down, the tension in the area was still very high,” said a terrified resident.
South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Athlenda Mathe is aware of the incident and is making calls to provide further information.
