The Eastern Cape African National Congress (ANC) will hold another special provincial executive committee (PEC) meeting on Saturday morning as the party fails to get its provincial conference off the ground.

Saturday would have marked day-two of the party's 10th provincial conference, but it failed to get going.

The conference has been hampered by internal disputes and two court challenges over its branch processes before the conference.

The Eastern Cape's provincial conference has been unable to get going due to delays caused by unresolved legal disputes.

The party will hold another PEC meeting, expected to start at 10:30 in the morning to get more legal guidance on the implications of a court interdict.

The interim interdict barred the party from starting the conference until it resolves its internal disputes.

The party's leadership, including secretary general Fikile Mbalula and NEC members deployed to the province, is facing contempt of court charges for not abiding by the interdict when they said the conference would go ahead.

The conference is set to elect a new leadership, with current leader Oscar Mabuyane facing off with provincial secretary Lulama Ngcukayitobi for chairperson.
