In October, Nkosi’s house was raided by police who were searching for Matlala’s credit card.

Following the raid, Nkosi made a statement to the police, including the following: “He called me again, telling me that he needs the card urgently, as he was going to meet with the Deputy President, Paul Mashatile.”

Mashatile’s spokesperson, Keith Khoza, said the deputy president has never met with Matlala and there was never a plan to.

“The deputy president does not know the individual referred to in the testimony and has never had any association or dealings with him. The DP was out of the country at the time Mr Matlala purported to have met with him or intended to do so.”
