The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) said it is working to curb the number of unwanted animals, having sterilised more than 200 pets this week alone.
The organisation reportedly receives over 2,000 unwanted animals every month, placing immense pressure on the welfare system.
As part of its intensified prevention strategy, the SPCA has set a target of 10,000 sterilisations in 2026.
Belinda Abraham said that by preventing litters before they begin, the organisation hopes to reduce intake and protect animals across the sector.
"Investing in sterilisation at scale reduces intake, it protects animals, and it relieves pressure across the entire welfare system.”
