A fire at Cape Town International Airport has reportedly been contained following a disruptive blaze at the international terminal. Preliminary reports suggest that an electrical fault may have been the cause of the incident.

Firefighters, emergency services, and law enforcement agencies remain on the scene to monitor the situation. While the fire is under control, the impact on airport infrastructure has been significant:

Communication lines inside the airport have been affected.

Power outages have left sections of the terminal in the dark.

Ground operations were temporarily halted as emergency crews worked to secure the area.

EYEWITNESS ACCOUNT

EWN reporter Nokukhanya Mntambo, who landed at the airport during the height of the chaos, reported that passengers were kept on their aircraft for nearly an hour.

"About three or four fire trucks had to come in to try and contain the blaze," Mntambo said. "What that meant was that nobody who had just landed... was allowed to dock or allow passengers to disembark or come into the airport while that was being dealt with. It has been contained as far as we understand."

Authorities have not yet confirmed when full power and communication services will be restored to the affected terminals.
