Stellenbosch University (SU) said it is working on a case-by-case process to help students resolve outstanding financial blocks.
The university said it has lifted more than 8,000 blocks for academically deserving students and cleared over 95% of restrictions linked to the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).
Acting dean of students Leslie van Rooi said the registration deadline has been extended to 27 February.
"Students awaiting the resolution of financial matters have temporary access to our online learning platform, SunLearn, to ensure that they are not academically disadvantaged."
Van Rooi added that the university is engaging NSFAS regarding student accommodation.
"SU continues to engage with NSFAS, amongst others, on issues linked to outstanding payments and the classification of Stellenbosch as a metro for the purpose of accommodation allowances. The university also proactively engages with student leaders and students in general to resolve registration and funding-related matters as far as possible."
