Parts of the Johannesburg CBD are still without power after a fire at the central substation last week.

City power said that progress has been delayed by ongoing theft at the site including the recent loss of a hundred and eighty metres of critical protection cables.

The utility said that several areas remain affected including Commissioner, Albert, Fox and Marshall streets.

Spokesperson Isaac Mangena said that the cables have been replaced and final testing is underway…

“We'd like to apologize to the residents within the inner city following the promise to restore electricity on Friday evening, but due to some matters, especially with regard to the electricity infrastructure that are beyond our, control we could not finish with the testing of the protective structures or cables that were stolen that we just installed on time," said Mangena.
