The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) has warned beachgoers to be careful as the full moon spring tide approaches this weekend.

Tidal conditions at beaches along the country's coast will be stronger for the next three days as the full moon spring tide peaks on Monday.

NSRI spokesperson Andrew Ingram says this natural phenomenon occurs when the sun, moon, and earth align during the full moon phase, amplifying the gravitational pull on the earth’s oceans.

"Higher high tides and lower low tides will be experienced throughout this weekend and into next week. Swimmers are urged to visit lifeguard-protected beaches, and anglers and hikers should exercise caution, especially during the incoming high tide." Ingram added.
