Authorities have raised concerns about festive season travel following the interception of overloaded buses en route to Zimbabwe over the weekend.
Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety Susani Violet Maythe said the department clamped down on overloaded, unroadworthy vehicles and non-compliant trailers on Sunday.
Its spokesperson, Matome Taueatsoala, said that vehicles exceeding passenger limits are a worrisome factor for the department.
"Two busses arrived - the first one is from KwaZulu-Natal in Durban travelling to Zimbabwe. The bus was certified to carry 63 occupants, but we found out that it was carrying 82 occupants. The second bus to Zimbabwe as well, certified to carry 70, was found to be carrying 79 occupants.”
