The University of Cape Town’s Summer School returns from 19 to 31 January 2026, offering the public access to more than 120 lectures, short courses and events across politics, medicine, the arts, economics and current affairs.
The programme brings together up to 1,000 participants daily for hour-long sessions led by leading academics and public figures such as Professor William Gumede, Judge Susannah Cowen, Dr Iraj Abedian and Redi Tlhabi.
New for 2026 is a dedicated Saturday schools programme for teachers and principals, focusing on issues like neurodiversity, bullying and artificial intelligence.
Lectures cost R115 each, with discounts for staff and students and financial assistance available on request.
Bookings are already open, with details available via the UCT Summer School website and selected brochure outlets.
"The most important thing to emphasise is that it's open for everyone. You don't need qualifications, degrees, nothing. It is open for all, and we welcome everybody," says Medee Rall, Director of the Development and Alumni Programme at UCT.
