Cooperative Governance Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa is expected to visit flood-stricken Mpumalanga on Saturday to assess the extent of damage caused by inclement weather conditions.
Since the start of the severe rains in November last year, 19 people have been killed and over one thousand homes destroyed in the province.
Most dams in the province have reached capacity, sitting above 100 per cent, adding to the high risk of flooding.
Provincial cooperative governance spokesperson Freddy Ngobe says they are working to prevent further loss of life.
“We want to save lives and ensure that people’s livelihoods are not severely affected, given that this is a devastating period,” Ngobe added.
During his visit to the province, Minister Hlabisa is also expected to announce interventions which will help the province.
