The motion of no confidence against Johannesburg Mayor Dada Morero has been withdrawn.
The motion was originally filed by the Al-Jamah Party and seconded by minority parties, the United Democratic Movement (UDM) and African Transformation Movement (ATM).
It was due to heard in council on Tuesday.
These smaller parties initially claimed they had lost confidence in the mayor but have opted to address their issues with Morero outside of the council chambers.
On Monday night, the African National Congress (ANC)-led coalition in Johannesburg met to discuss, among other matters, the motion of no confidence against Morero.
At that meeting, the minority parties agreed to withdraw the motion and instead set up a round-table discussion to address their grievances with the mayor.
The motion was raised by parties within the coalition, who said their discontent is not with the ANC itself, but with its leader in the city.
UDM councillor Yongama Zigege outlined why they chose to pull the motion at the last minute: “The other partners agreed that they feel our pain but suggested that we have a word instead of a motion.”
It's the second vote of no confidence in the mayor in 2025.
Six months ago, Morero survived one sponsored by the Democratic Alliance (DA).
